You loved it in print and podcast, and now fans of the Los Angeles Times series “Dirty John” will have the opportunity to enjoy the tale as a true-crime scripted anthology series for Bravo.

Stars Connie Britton and Eric Bana talked about the project with E! while on the red carpet for NBC Upfronts on Monday and gave a little insight into “Dirty John.”

“I think the podcast was such a phenomenon and the story is incredible,” Britton said.

“Dirty John” was a six-part investigative series and podcast at The Times by Christopher Goffard, centering around handsome but manipulative grifter John Meehan (Bana), his relationship with Debra Newell (Britton) and the ensuing fallout.

Though the series is still in development, Britton noted that writer Alexandra Cunningham is working closely with The Times throughout her research process, even finding details that went unshared in the podcast.

Bana, who will make his U.S. television debut with the series, shed light on what made this story different from other true-crime projects out there.

“They’re really complicated characters,” he said. “I think it’ll be quite challenging for a lot of people, for sure.”

“Dirty John” was given a two-season, straight-to-series order in January.
